The debut album from Samuel Escher is out January 11th 2019. The record features 10 tracks, written and performed by Escher.
The concept album, the first of a three album series, focuses on a protagonist who decides to symbolically leave their life behind and venture into the wilds of the North. Tracks like Throne, Kin and Embers serve to reminisce relationships and the former life, Sink finds the protagonist at their most desperate, whilst Mountain and Pioneer celebrate fortitude and mental strength. The thread of wilderness tracks ties the story together and prepares the listener for the next part of the journey, Migration.
Wilderness was recorded over a 4-week period in October and November 2018 in a small tenement flat in Edinburgh, Scotland using a single, condenser microphone and a variety of borrowed instruments to craft the record. Escher is a poet and songwriter from Edinburgh and this is his first album. In the true spirit of independent music, Escher created the entirety of the record except for the cover artwork, which is by Australian artist, Melanie Caple; a collaboration which occurred through social media website, Instagram.
Escher will be playing shows throughout the UK and Europe throughout 2019, delivering the story of Wilderness as a solo acoustic show. There will be five singles to support the release, the first being Embers, out January 11th 2019 with the album.
